Two minors among four held

CHENNAI: Two minors were among four persons arrested by the Egmore police in connection with the death of four-year-old Saira Banu of Perambur on Sunday.

The girl who was travelling home with her parents in a motorcycle suffered a grievous injury when a thread coated with ‘maanja' used to fly a kite slit her throat. A special team formed to investigate the case on Monday arrested the two minors of Pudupet, and the two others Arul Prakasam (22) and Govindaraj (30) of Chintadripet on charges of selling the ‘maanja' paste and kite respectively.

“We recovered the paste and part of the string used to fly the kite from the house of the minors. They were sent to a Juvenile Home. The other accused persons were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Egmore) E. Prithvirajan said.
