Bangalore: A gang of five, armed with a pistol and knives, looted gold jewellery worth around Rs. 30 lakh from a pawnshop here Monday afternoon. The daring daylight heist took place in Sham Champalal Pawn Brokers at Y.K. Palya in the Ashok Nagar police station limits at 1.45 p.m. Shop owner Subhash Chandra Jain told the police the gang entered his shop posing as customers who wanted to pledge gold jewellery. The robbery was planned to perfection as they arrived on three motorcycles with registration numbers in Kannada. The men, conversing in Hindi and Kannada, struck up a conversation with Mr. Jain for a few minutes before pulling a gun and knives on him. Threatening to kill him, they coerced him into showing them where the pledged gold was kept. Mr. Jain took them to the inner room where the jewellery was kept in 11 bags. The gang snatched six bags and escaped on their motorcycles. The entire operation lasted less than five minutes, said the police, who are yet to ascertain whether the gun was a toy or the real McCoy. They are verifying the documents to ascertain the quantity of the robbed gold.
