Kiran Kumar Reddy has asserted that women have the ability to succeed in all fields of activity if they are given proper encouragement, motivation and training. The Chief Minister quoted the example of women of Chittoor dairy, a dairy under liquidation, which could make a turn around because of the hard work put up by women. The once popular dairy, which almost went under hammer, was entirely managed by women who were procuring 1.7 lakh litres of milk every day. and supplying it to different parts of the country through the Mother Dairy. He was speaking at a meeting organised in connection with the Commonwealth Day – 2011, organised by the State branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in the Assembly on Monday. He presented awards and mementoes to women who made significant contributions in their respective fields of activity. The Chief Minister gave away mementoes to awardees who included journalists M.L. Melly Maitreyi, Special Correspondent, The Hindu, S. Padmasri of Eenadu and social worker Fatima who runs a chain of crèches in old city. Others were D. Satyamma, K. Padma, N. Yellamma, Pullamma and D. Geetha, all from Chenchu tribe who were running a APTDC's restaurant at Mannanur in Mahabubnagar district. Some women MLAs, including nominated MLA Christine Lazarus, were also felicitated. Ministers J. Geetha Reddy, P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, V. Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and D.K. Aruna and Council chairman A. Chakrapani were present.
