Coimbatore: A man and his wife along with their two children suffered burns when a fire broke out in their home at Pattanampudur near Ondipudur. According to the police, Ramalakshmi (24) was cooking with her seven-month-old daughter Savitha on her lap. Another daughter Akshaya (3) was playing nearby. When the fire spread from the kerosene stove, Ramalakshmi and Savitha suffered burns. Akshaya escaped with minor injuries. Ramalakshmi's husband Ramaraj (36), who tried to rescue them, also suffered injuries. The infant succumbed to burns at the hospital, while the mother's condition was said to be critical. Woman dies Lakshmi (48), wife of Balasubramanian, a senior bank manager, died on the spot when the two-wheeler on which she was travelling was knocked down by a TNSTC bus at Nava India signal on Avanashi Road on Monday. According to the police, Lakshmi of Sundakkamuthur bypass road along with her neighbour, Prabha, had come to Hope College area to buy a grinder. When they were returning home on the two-wheeler, a bus bound for Gandhipuram knocked the vehicle down. In the impact, Lakshmi went under the wheels of the bus and died. The Traffic Investigation Wing police have arrested bus driver Murugesan (41) of Theni District. Five held for gambling The Ramanathapuram police have arrested five persons and recovered Rs. 12,500 from them when they were found to be gambling near a temple on Nagappa Thevar Street.
