Penal action against illegal sale of minerals
Staff Reporter
KARUR: Unauthorised and illegal sale of minerals would attract severe penal action under relevant rules, District Collector J. Uma Maheswari has warned dealers and public traders of minerals.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Ms. Uma Maheswari has observed that the State government would take strict and severe penal action against those found violating the provisions of the Indian mines and Minerals Act 1957 that regulates quarrying, mining, processing and trading in minerals, including minor minerals.
As per the provisions of the Act, dealers who trade in random rubble, blue metal, shoaling, crusher stones, granite, quartz, felspar should get a dealership license from the Collector through the Department of Geology and Mining before any transaction. Vehicles carrying the minerals should compulsorily carry permits issued by the Department and any violation would render them liable for criminal and penal action, the Collector has noted in the statement.
