KADAPA: Congress MLC Batyala Chengalrayulu was re-elected while Telugu Desam Party candidate S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy and Praja Rajyam nominee Chennamsetty Ramachandraiah made their debut in A.P. Legislative Council in elections held on Thursday.

Mr. Chengalrayulu, who is Congress in-charge of Railway Kodur constituency in Kadapa district, was elected to the Council for a second term. Mr. Satish Kumar Reddy, TDP's Pulivendula Assembly constituency in-charge, who contested unsuccessfully against former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy from Pulivendula in the past, will enter the Council for the first time. Mr. Ramachandraiah, who earlier served as Minister in N.T. Rama Rao Cabinet and as Rajya Sabha member for two terms and was Praja Rajyam politburo member, became MLC for the first time.

It may be recalled that M. Geyanand, an MBBS doctor and Jana Vignana Vedika leader, was elected as MLC from Rayalaseema West Graduates constituency and Batchala Pullaiah, principal of S.K.S.C. Degree and PG College in Proddatur, was elected MLC from Rayalaseema West Teachers constituency on Wednesday. The elections of MLC Local Authority Constituency being contested by former Proddatur MLA N. Varadarajulu Reddy, Congress candidate, and former Kadapa DCCB Chairman C. Narayana Reddy, sponsored by YSR Congress Party, are slated on March 21. Kadapa district already has Congress leader Shaik Hussain as MLC, who has a two years more in his tenure. The term of Minister for Agriculture Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, who was elected MLC in a byelection, and M. Venkatasiva Reddy of Telugu Desam Party, would come an end on March 29.

Nizamabad Staff Reporter writes: The TDP senior leader and the party district president V. Gangadhar Goud's victory as MLC from the Legislative Assembly was hailed by the party leaders and cadres. He is the second MLC for the party from the district.

The 60-year-old leader, during his 28 years in the party, held different positions. Starting from a grassroot level party worker in his village Rampur in Dichpally mandal, he was elected chairman of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society at his native for 20 years.

He was vice-chairman of the DCCB for three years and its chairman for nine years. He was the party's district general secretary and convener before becoming the party president after the former Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy demitted office last year. He is known for his hard work in the party and organisational capabilities.
