Staff Reporter

‘Laugh Lines' will be on in city till April 2

Food for thought:70 of his works, including 20 illustrations, will be part of the exhibition.

BANGALORE: There is no other way politics can make you laugh other than in cartoons. Ace cartoonist Surendra has been doodling his way through leading newspapers, making strong political statements and tickling the funny bone of readers for over 25 years.

His fans will get a chance to revisit some of his most famous works as close to 70 of them, including 20 illustrations, will be on display at the Indian Cartoon Gallery from Saturday.

All the cartoons to be on display at the exhibition, aptly titled ‘Laugh Lines', are those that have been published in The Hindu.

G.M. Belagali, Commissioner of Income Tax, Karnataka Central, will inaugurate the exhibition.

Mr. Surendra, who works for The Hindu, has had no formal training in drawing. A science graduate, he started his career as a layout artist and joined Andhra Bhoomi as a cartoonist in 1984.

He had worked in Udayam, Andhra Prabha, Hindi Milap and Citizens Evening before joining The Hindu in 1996.

The exhibition is open to the public from March 19 to April 2 at the Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford Garden, off M.G. Road between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

It will be inaugurated at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
