Bangalore: The Central Reserve Police Forceplans to establish jungle warfare training unit in the State.
The paramilitary force's Director-General K. Vijay Kumar told presspersons here on Thursday that the CRPF plans to set up the specialised training unit at Belgaum because its topography and thick natural vegetation make it ideal for a unit of this sort. He was speaking to presspersons after the Passing Out Parade of 212 Battalion comprising 1,600 recruits.
Mr. Kumar said he would soon submit a proposal for the training unit to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
Mr Kumar also reiterated the commitment of the CRPF to set up a training unit at Mysore for the Rapid Action Force, which has been hanging fire for a long time. Each of these units will require at least 150 acres of land, he said. Touching upon other expansion plans he said that at least another four Battalion headquarters will be set up in the State in the coming years.
Mr. Kumar also expressed satisfaction over the pattern of recruitment to the force in Karnataka.
“We have consistently been able to fill the quota of vacancies allotted to the State,” he said.
