KOLKATA: Defending champion Churchill Brothers opened its campaign in style comfortably downing Mohammedan Sporting 3-1 in a group ‘A' match of the IFA Shield football at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Friday. Bineesh Balan put Churchill ahead before Chizoba Christopher brought Sporting back converting a penalty to have the first session ending deadlocked. Lenny Rodrigues restored the lead in the second session before Charan Rai ensured the win for Churchill Brothers scoring the third goal. In another group ‘B' match played at the same venue later in the evening, striker Racy Khiangte struck two goals in a span of eight minutes to help Shillong Lajong FC make a late comeback and beat Chirag United 2-1. — Principal Correspondent
