VISAKHAPATNAM: Department of Sociology of Andhra University will organise a National seminar on “Right to Education Act 2009, its implementation and social development in India” here on Sunday and Monday.

The Government officials and experts in the field would deliberate during the two days on the suggestions to be made to the Government and the strategies it could adopt for the effective implementation of the Act to ensure 100 per cent literacy in the country, seminar director K. The sub-themes of the seminar would deal with role of teacher, parents, media and NGOs in spreading literacy. A documentary produced by him on the Right to Education Act, its significance and goal would be released by Collector J. Syamala Rao on the first day, Prof. Vijaya Kumar said. Not just the Government but teachers, parents, local leaders, local Vidya Committees, officials, media, people's organisations and other sections should be involved, the documentary said. The deficiencies in education and the great imbalance of the rich having access and the poor, women and downtrodden sections being denied education and other aspects were explained in the documentary, Prof. Vijaya Kumar said.
