Zaki and Arshad worked as sales men The accused have been taken into police custody for verification NEW DELHI: Four young men have been arrested on charges of robbing a businessman of cash and shooting him dead here in the Capital earlier this month. The police claim to have recovered Rs.90,000 from them. Atul Jain (34) was on his way home when the assailants fired several rounds at him and decamped with his bag on March 6. He was rushed to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Enquiries by the police revealed that Atul worked as a commission agent and would collect money from various traders in Gandhi Nagar market. The police found an abandoned motorcycle, a helmet and a country-made firearm near the scene of crime. The motorcycle was found stolen from Jafrabad in North-East Delhi. A team was constituted to develop the leads. Preliminary inspection of the scene of crime suggested that it was a targeted killing. From Atul's relatives the police learnt that he collected cash from business and this led them to reconstruct the chain of events leading up to his murder. The police found that on the fateful day, Atul had collected over Rs.8 lakh from the traders in Gandhi Nagar. Suspecting that someone might have tipped off the criminals that he was carrying a huge amount of cash, they questioned a large number of workers in Gandhi Nagar to get a clue about the informer. Inspector Rohitash Kumar received a tip-off about one such person named Arshad. During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that he had told Naushad that Atul used to collect cash from various shops in the market. Naushad then allegedly roped in his colleague Zaki Anwar and Mustaqim. Subsequently the police mounted raids and arrested Zaki. A joint team of the local police and the Crime Branch then arrested Mustaqim and another accused Nadeem. 26 cases registered According to the police, Mustaqim -- a registered bad character of the Jafrabad police station -- headed the gang and was previously involved in 26 cases registered at different police stations in the Capital.
