Nod for School Service Commission to declare results

KOLKATA: The Election Commission (EC) has given its nod to the West Bengal School Service Commission to announce the results of the examination held last year for recruiting teachers in secondary and higher secondary schools across the State.
The Commission, however, is yet to confirm if counselling and appointment of the qualified candidates is permissible till the elections are over.
According to the State Election Commission, the sanction came after the School Service Commission board wrote to the EC to make sure if declaring the results after the announcement of the election dates would amount to violating the code of conduct.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer N.K. Sahana said the EC had said the results for examinations held in October last could be announced by the School Service Commission board. “Regarding the counselling and appointment of candidates by district school managing committees, we are awaiting the committee's direction,” he added.
The College Service Commission board too had sought a clarification from the EC about the recruitment process. Mr. Sahana said it wanted to know if it could continue the recruitment process of principals and assistant professors for which advertisements were placed on newspapers before the announcement of the election dates.
