Jayalalithaa releases a list of 10 constituencies allotted to CPI

CHENNAI: On a day of hectic parleys in the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam camp, its leader Jayalalithaa sought to iron out differences with her allies, who were unhappy at the party announcing candidates for 160 constituencies, including many they were aspiring for.

Late at night, she managed to sew up an understanding with the Communist Party of India (CPI) and released a list of 10 constituencies allotted to them.

Talks on

Talks were going on at her Poes Garden residence till midnight with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

The CPI got its traditional stronghold of Tiruthuraipoondi (Reserved), besides Sivaganga, Thalli, Gudiyatham (R), Bhavanisagar (R), Coonoor, Pennagaram, Pudukottai, Valparai (R) and Srivilliputhur (R).

Not in list

Mannargudi, a seat that the CPI fought for, did not figure in the list.

The AIADMK also identified seats for six smaller parties in the alliance – the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK), led by actor R. Sarathkumar, the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), the Republican Party of India (Tamilarasan), the All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam (AIMMK), the All India Forward Bloc and the Tamil Nadu Kongu Ilaignar Peravai.
