Raising their voice: Bharatiya Janata Party activists shouting slogans in protest against the Delhi Government, “corruption” and WikiLeaks revelations outside the Assembly on Friday. NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday demanded action against Delhi Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, who has been indicted by the Lokayukta for trying to influence a tax raid against a prominent South Delhi resort, by boycotting him in the Delhi Assembly and holding a demonstration against him outside. As soon as the House assembled Leader of Opposition V. K. Malhotra led a walk-out by the party members because “no action has been taken on the Lokayukta report''. Later, during Question Hour, BJP members like Jai Bhagwan Agarwal and Pradyuman Rajput also refused to pose questions to Mr. Chauhan. And when a question was directed at him by a Congress MLA, all the BJP members again walked out in protest. The Delhi BJP, led by president Vijender Gupta, also launched its series of agitations against Mr. Chauhan with a demonstration near the Delhi Assembly. Combining the protest with the “corruption in Delhi Government and recent expose of cash-for-vote scam by WikiLeaks'', the protesters courted arrest when the police prevented them from moving towards the Delhi Assembly. The prominent party leaders who participated in the protest were former Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana and Delhi BJP office-bearers Ramesh Bidhuri, Pravesh Verma and Ramesh Chauhan.Raising slogans demanding resignations of Delhi Chief Minister and Prime Minister, the protesters charged that the Congress leaders were only engaged in loot of public money. Addressing party workers, Mr. Gupta said it was unfortunate that even a month after the Lokayukta's order, Mr. Chauhan has not been removed. “This is happening at the instance of Congress president,'' he charged. The Delhi BJP president said the WikiLeaks cables have completely exposed the Congress. “The Congress may go to any extent to save its Government but this denotes the murder of democracy.'' At the local level, he said the Comptroller and Auditor General of India too has in its enquiry found that the private schools of Delhi were not admitting poor children even after getting land at cheap rates. “There is great manipulation in their accounts. Even the Education Department of Delhi Government is hand in glove with them. Hence the Government did not examine their accounts. The private schools are cheating the parents by increasing various charges,'' he added.
