VISAKHAPATNAM: Editor of an evening daily, Leader, on Saturday lodged a complaint with the Fourth Town police charging Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju with issuing threats, extortion, and criminal intimidation. In his complaint, V.V. Ramana Murthy, the Editor, said that he had published a series of reports between June and October 2010 on irregularities allegedly committed by the Minister. No rejoinder was received by the newspaper. But, after more than four months, the Minister served a legal notice on February 26 wherein he sought Rs.1 crore as damages. “The Minister is trying to intimidate me by threatening to invoke the provisions of the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act though nothing was written against Mr. Balaraju in his personal capacity,” Mr. Murthy said.
