Holy move:Devotees witnessing Panguni Uthiram car procession in Palani on Saturday. PALANI: Thousands of devotees from various parts of the State and from Kerala witnessed the holy car procession conducted as part of Panguni Uthiram festival here on Saturday. The car procession started from Sri Padha Vinayagar Temple and returned to the temple after passing through the four ‘giri veedhis' around the hill temple. The ‘utsavamurthy' reached ‘Theerthavari' for the dip early in the morning. Special pujas were performed to Lord Muthukumaraswamy later. Then the deity was decorated and taken around Thiru Avinankudi Temple on an ivory palanquin. After the special pujas, Lord Muthukumaraswamy along with Sri Valli and Sri Deivanai ascended the aesthetically decorated holy car in Rishabha lagnam around 11.30 a.m. The priests performed special pujas to the car and the deities. Amid chanting of holy hymns and Thevaram songs, the devotees pulled the car from its base around 4.45 p.m. The temple elephant too pushed the car from behind for smooth passage on the concrete road. With different ‘kaavadis' on their shoulders, devotees from Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been thronging the hill temple since three days. They played percussion instruments and danced on the ‘giri veedhis.' Cracker festival The cracker festival will be held on the banks of Vaiyapuri tank on Sunday and then the 10-day ‘Panguni uthiram' festival will conclude on March 22.
