Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital launches Facebook, Twitter accounts

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Dr. Agarwal's Eye Hospital on Saturday launched its account on two social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter.

“The idea of having accounts in these sites is that anyone can send us their queries, upload their reports and we will provide answers,” chairman of the hospital Amar Agarwal said. “Social networking brings together education and knowledge transfer at its best at a very customised and personal level,” he added.

The hospital has already uploaded videos of surgeries done in the hospital on YouTube. Director of the hospital Ashvin Agarwal said a team of 10 ophthalmologists and three IT professionals will constantly monitor the accounts.

Initially, the queries and answers will be in English but later the hospital plans to respond in different languages to enable users to send queries in a language of their choice. The sites would be used to provide messages on preventive eye care also. Dr. Amar cited the example of a 4 1/2-year-old girl from Iraq, thanks to technology. The girl who had been operated for cataract at the age of 18 months but needed corrective glasses was referred to the hospital for glued intraocular lens surgery. Actor Kushboo, launched the Facebook and Twitter accounts.
