Plea to trace missing boy

Staff Reporter

ONGOLE: Hundreds of students and activists of BC and SC welfare organisations on Monday staged a demonstration here on Monday to protest against the failure of authorities to trace 11-year-old boy who was missing from a hostel for the last three months.

The boy is missing ever since he returned to the BC Boys Gurukula Patasala in Vetapalem after Christmas holidays.

A group of protestors who called on the Collector Kandilal Dande demanded stern action against school principal Neelakantam for ‘insulting the boy' in front of all students after accusing him of stealing money besides, taking steps to trace the boy.

The parents of the student, G. Pratap, fellow students and members of the Backward Classes Sankheyma Sangam (BCSS), CPI-led Kula Nirmulana Porata Samiti, CPI (M)-led Kula Vivaksha Porata Samiti, Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti, and Mala Mahanadu came in a procession from the NTR statue near Adanki bus stand raising slogans.

After staging a demonstration, the agitators formed a human chain, blocking vehicular traffic.

Tense situation prevailed at the Church centre for sometime when police tried to remove the agitators to restore traffic.

A large number of women, including relatives of the boy, blocked the police vehicle and did not allow it to move.

The police arranged a meeting between the leaders and the Collector who promised to issue advertisements to trace the boy and to take action against the principal after an inquiry.
