Tribal girls on the warpath

Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM: Commotion prevailed at the office of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Bhadrachalam on Tuesday when a section of the tribal girls climbed the office building and staged a protest demonstration demanding an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the recent recruitment of staff nurses in Bhadrachalam agency.

Earlier, a group of tribal girl students, those appeared in the recent staff nurse recruitment drive, reached atop the office building and some of them allegedly threatened to jump off to death from the roof of the building if the authorities failed to render justice to them.

The activists of the Adivasi Samkshema Parishad extended support to their stir demanding a detailed probe into the recruitment drive.

The protesters displayed placards alleging that two “non-agency” candidates of a particular tribal community were selected for staff nurse posts undermining the prospects of the local tribal girls with requisite qualifications like B.Sc (Nursing) in the recruitment.

The officials concerned denied their allegations and insisted that only eligible candidates were selected as per merit.
