Election Observers hold discussions in Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga districts

RAMANATHAPURAM: Amalan Tripathy, Election Observer, Expenditure has asked the members of various committees formed to monitor the election proceedings to stick to their jobs so as to calculate the expenses incurred by the political parties and candidates.

Speaking at a meeting of district election officials and members of committees here on Tuesday, he said several committees including flying squad, static, video monitoring, media certification and monitoring committees had already been formed. They should record all proceedings of electioneering including all forms of campaign, filing of nominations.

Mr. Tripathy said they should strictly follow instructions prescribed by the Election Commission of India. The flying squad should visit all their respective areas to monitor the proceedings.

Collector T.N. Hariharan said the Election Commission had appointed Vibin Sharma and Sukumar Ganai as Election Observers (general). While Mr. Sharma would monitor the elections for Paramakudi and Thiruvadanai constituencies, Mr. Ganai would supervise the elections for Ramanathapuram and Mudukulathur constituencies. Mr. Sharma and Ganai could be contacted at 7598700221 and 7598700222 respectively. Mr. Amalan Tripathy, Observer, Expenditure, would be available at 7598700223.

Sivaganga

P.N.B. Nair, Election Observer, Expenditure, Sivaganga district has promised that the elections for the four constituencies such as Karaikudi, Sivaganga, Manamadurai and Thirupattur would be conducted in a free and fair manner.


Speaking at an all party meeting presided over by the Collector, V. Sampath, held at Sivaganga on Monday, he said the Election Commission had been imposing restrictions only to ensure fair elections to the State Assembly. The restrictions were not aimed against any particular party.

The ceiling for election expenses per candidate had been increased to Rs.16 lakh from Rs.10 lakh. The candidates and their agents should cooperate with the election authorities in all aspects.

Mr. Nair said he would meet the representatives of political parties of all four constituencies within three days.
