Property tax interest waived

HYDERABAD: In a major relief to citizens of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, the government has waived interest on arrears of property tax for the current financial year of 2010-2011 and also interest on the current year dues as a one-time measure.

However, citizens benefitting from the order should pay up all their pending dues including the current year's tax on or before March 31, either lumpsum or by instalments.

Those who had already paid their arrears with interest will be getting the amounts paid adjusted for the next year's property tax (2011-2012) as there will be no cash refund, an official order said on Tuesday. These orders are applicable to the Greater Municipal Corporations of the three cities.
