Poll observers meet Collector

KOCHI: Two observers appointed by the Central Election Commission to monitor the campaign expenditure of candidates have reached the district.

District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed, who is also the district election officer, said the two observers will keep a watch on the campaign expenditure of candidates in seven constituencies each.

K. Sivakumar, an Indian Customs and Central Excise Service (IC&CES) official will monitor the campaign front in Perumbavoor, Angamaly, Aluva, Kalamassery, Paravur, Vypeen, and Kochi constituencies. M.R. Dileep Kumar will be his liaison officer.

Another IC&CES official Premlal Singh will be in charge of Tripunithura, Ernakulam, Thrikkakara, Kunnathunadu, Piravom, Muvattupuzha, and Kothamangalam constituencies. He will be assisted by liaison officer Varkey Joseph.

Both the observers discussed the election preparations with the District Collector at the collectorate on Monday. Assistant campaign expenditure observers and nodal officers also attended the meeting.

The observers will hear complaints on election expenditure between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Complaints can be lodged over the phone also. The complaints, however, should be lodged only with the observer of the constituency concerned.
