Thiruvananthapuram: District Election Officer Dinesh Arora on Tuesday ordered erasing of graffiti and removal of posters of all nature from the compound walls of public buildings and government property in the district in the next 48 hours. Election officials said wall writings, pasting of posters/ papers or advertisement in any other form, including erecting / displaying of cut-outs, hoardings, banners, flags, arches will not be permitted on public property. The DEO ordered the Police, Public Works Department (Roads and Buildings), Chief Engineer KSEB (Rural and Urban), and secretaries of local bodies to ensure compliance of the election code of conduct. Henceforth, any board or banner placed in connection with the election campaign should confirm to the specifications mandated in the Kerala Municipality Act. The DEO ordered the police to book those (chiefly candidates and their agents) who stick posters, write graffiti or erect advertisement banners/ arches/ hoardings/ flags in private property without the written consent of the landlord under section 120 D of the Kerala Police Act 2010. The Election Commission of India requested the public to bring such derelictions of duty and violations of the election code of conduct to its district control room at 1077, 0471-2730045 and 0471-2730067.
