Camphor lit on student's hand

Staff Reporter

Namakkal: Despite the State governments clear-cut instructions against corporal punishment, a teacher of a government elementary school in Tiruchengode Taluk allegedly lit camphor on the hand of a student in a bid to identify who stole her money, on Monday. The incident came to light when parents of the affected children, students and social activists thronged the office of the Tiruchengode Assistant Education Officer (AEO) on Tuesday, seeking stern action against the teacher. The parents also refused to send their children to school till the teacher was transferred from that school.
