HYDERABAD: The murder for gain of a 52-year-old housewife committed last month at L.B. Nagar was hatched by a degree second-year student living in a rented portion of her house, the police said on Tuesday. The student, U. Srujana Babu, pursuing degree in biotechnology in DVM College, his childhood friend, P. Latchaiah and five of their associates were arrested. A 9 mm pistol with 20 live rounds, an Eicher van, a Maruti car, a bike and gold jewellery weighing 150 grams were recovered from the gang, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, told a press conference. Latchaiah, ‘an old offender', came to Babu's room in Saingar colony at Nagole. Babu told him that that their landlord was rich and looting the owner's house would solve all their financial difficulties. Latchaiah, in turn, discussed the plan with other associates, M. Janardhan, M. Praveen, Ch. Nagaraju, K. Bhaskar Reddy and P. Saidulu. On February 26, while Janardhan stood guard outside, the others barged into the woman Harathi Suvarna Chudamani's house and pounced on her. They strangulated the woman and collected the jewellery and fled.
