Labourer found dead on railway tracks

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Mystery shrouds the death of a young daily wage labourer whose body was found on the railway tracks near Benniganahalli Railway Bridge.

A relative suspects murder and wants a “proper” investigation though the Government Railway Police (GRP) think it is suicide.

Byappanahalli railway police station officials identified the victim as Nagappa (23), a native of Yadgir in north Karnataka. He had been living in a shed with parents and relatives near Nagannana Palya.

Relatives said he had an affair with his neighbour but she spurned his marriage proposal.

On Monday, evening Nagappa barged into her house and allegedly threatened her. This led to a scene with her family.

“We have recovered the mutilated body from the track. According to our preliminary investigation, Nagappa jumped before the running train and committed suicide,” a police officer said.

Commits suicide

Senthil Kumar (28), a daily wage labourer, hanged himself at his home in Ullal Upanagar here early on Tuesday after his father-in-law Mani, who had borrowed Rs. 50,000, steadfastly refused to return it, Jnanabharathi police said.
