Central para-military forces being withdrawn from Telangana

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The contingents of Central para-military forces deployed in the Telangana region of the State to tackle the ongoing pro-Telangana agitation are being withdrawn from Tuesday.

These forces were requisitioned by the Centre for security arrangements in the ensuing Assembly elections in the five States of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry. “These units would be brought back to the region soon after the elections,” a senior police officer said.

Replying to a query of the alternative arrangements, the official said State police units would be pressed into service in case of emergency.

The withdrawal of the forces began from Assembly area on Tuesday.

Soon, all the contingents from Osmania Uuniversity campus and other parts of Telangana would be sent to the five States.

The withdrawal would be phase-wise and continue till the month end.
