COIMBATORE: A 38-year-old woman, who was set afire by her husband about 10 days ago, succumbed to burns at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Monday. According to the Mettupalayam police, Sekar (45), doused his wife Selvi in kerosene and set her afire on March 14, as he suspected her fidelity. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was battling for life for the past week or so. On Monday night she died, the police said. Sekar, who feared police action, committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree near his house. He died on March 15. The police said the couple have a daughter, who is married off, and a son, who is a Plus One student. Student killed M. Rangaraj, 18, a first year student of a college in Peelamedu, was killed in a road accident near Chitirachavadi in Alandurai police station limits on Monday. The police said he was returning with his friend Nivetha, 15, a ninth grader, from Kovai Coutralam when the two-wheeler he was riding on hit a college bus. He died on the spot. The girl was taken to a hospital. The police are investigating.
