Governments urged to help sericulturists

Correspondent

CHAMARAJANAGAR: President of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha Vatal Nagaraj has said his party will stage a protest on March 26 in Bangalore, urging the State and Union governments to come to the aid of sericulturists in the State.

Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Nagaraj urged the Government to announce a minimum support price for cocoons.

He said sericulturists suffered losses because of the Centre's import policy on silk, which allowed the import of China silk.

He also sought compensation for sericulturists who could not get a good price for their produce.

Criticised

Mr. Nagaraj was critical of legislators who did not attend Assembly sessions. The session should run for at least a hundred days a year, he pointed out.

He flayed the Speaker for allowing Bills to be passed despite the disorder in the House.
