Mobile-based verification of CST certificates from April 1

Staff Reporter

Commercial Taxes Department introduced m-SUGAM on March 1

e-VARDAN registrations issued to 4,294 applicants

Nearly 800 dealers have opted for m-SUGAM, says official

BANGALORE: Traders can heave a sigh of relief as the Commercial Taxes Department is expected to expand mobile-based services in the coming days.

After launching m-SUGAM on March 1, which enables traders to sell and purchase notified products with ease, the department will launch mobile-based verification of Central Sales Tax certifications on April 1.

The SUGAM services help traders — who have had to wait for long to get delivery notes (form VAT 505) from the Commercial Taxes Department to transport goods — to quickly complete the procedures online.

Expanding services

“With mobiles being popular, we intend to expand mobile-based services in future,” according to P.V. Bhat, Senior Technical Director of National Informatics Centre (NIC), which manages the department's online activities.

Giving a live demonstration of e-SUGAM, m-SUGAM and e-VARDAN schemes to representatives of trade bodies at an interactive session organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce an Industry (FKCCI), he said that e-SUGAM would be expanded to make it more trader-friendly.

Quick response

Pointing to the department's quick response in implementing e-VARDAN for registration purposes, Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes J. Ramalinge Gowda said that since its launch on February 1, the department had issued registration to 4,294 applicants of the 5,614 applications received. Some applications had not been processed due to problems in security deposit, he added.

Meanwhile, Chairman of State Taxes Committee of FKCCI B.T. Manohar told presspersons that almost 800 dealers had opted for m-SUGAM, and that the department's e-initiatives were a welcome move.
