Pradhan's report on State unit already with high command

B.S. Satish Kumar

BJP leader skip's scheduled visit to Bangalore

BANGALORE: Though Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan abruptly cancelled his trouble-shooting visit to Karnataka, he is learnt to have executed the task from Delhi itself by sending a report on the State to the party high command.

Mr. Pradhan, who is in-charge of Karnataka affairs, was scheduled to visit Bangalore on Wednesday as several party leaders have raised a banner of revolt against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. He was expected to hold consultations with leaders from both the camps. The party had even booked a room for Mr. Pradhan in the Kumarakrupa Guest House in Bangalore. But he cancelled his visit at the last minute.

Referring to this, a senior party functionary told The Hindu: “He has already finished his task sitting in Delhi itself by reporting to the high command on the Karnataka issue. There was no need for him to come to Bangalore.”

On the reason for Mr. Pradhan cancelling his visit, sources said both the camps — rebels and the Chief Minister — were stubborn in their stands and there was no point in Mr. Pradhan coming to Bangalore to hold consultations with them. “It was a real-time strategy to give a slip to the warring camps in the wake of unfolding developments,” they said. “Besides, all the issues are out in the open, whether it is related to allegations being levelled against the Chief Minister or the activities of the rebels,” sources said. Considering these aspects, he was advised by the State unit not to come to Bangalore, sources said. But it is not clear whether he has filed a written report or given an oral communication to the high command.
