Congressmen oppose nominee for Krishnagiri segment
Staff Reporter
KRISHNAGIRI: Congressmen in the district are opposing the candidature of Hazeena Sayeed for Krishnagiri Assembly constituency.
Over hundred members from the youth wing of the party thronged the Round Tanna and tried to burn Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Thangkabalu in effigy. However, it was thwarted by the police.
Eyewitnesses told The Hindu that the angry youths from the party slapped the effigy with chapels to register their opposition.
Later, party leaders headed by C. Narasimhan, former MP, told newsmen that they were opposing the candidate as she was a stranger to the district. They demanded the party high command change the candidate and field a local nominee. If no action was taken on their request, the rebels decide on the next course of action, including fielding a rebel candidate as Independent and working against the party candidate.
Besides Mr. Narasimhan, leaders from various groups in the party spoke at the press conference. The leaders alleged that Ms. Sayeed was a beautician in a TV channel owned by Mr. Thangkabalu.
