Rs. 10 crore allocated for Kolhapur Film City
Correspondent
Kolhapur: The State Government has announced a preliminary grant of Rs. 10 crore for the revival of the Kolhapur Film City project, which had been pending for 25 years. The Government had allotted 75 acres of land.
Prasad Surve, president of the All India Marathi Chittrapat Mahamandal, announced this at a press conference here on Wednesday that after meeting Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar at his residence about the plight of the Marathi film industry. He said most of the issues, along with grant for the film city project, were finalised with prompt preliminary sanction.
Mr. Surve said the project would be launched in the initial stages with the preliminary structural requirements by the Mahamandal as soon as the grant of Rs. 10 crore had been allocated. This work would be completed within six months. Later, the project would be completed on ‘build operate and transfer' (BOT) basis under the supervision of the Mahamandal. In view of the prohibitive cost of film production in Mumbai and other metros, the proposed film city in Kolhapur would give an opportunity not only for Marathi but also for Hindi and other regional language film production because of better facilities, greenery at outdoor shooting and comparatively low cost of production.
Mahamandal's secretary Subhash Bhurake, directors Vijay Kondke and actor Alka Kubal were present.
