Held for cheating

CHENNAI: A man who allegedly promised to get a MLA ticket and took Rs.2 lakh from his friend was arrested by the Kilpauk police on Tuesday.
According to police sources, Amanullah (37) of Katpadi in Vellore district promised his friend Pandi (49), an All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) party functionary of Manamadurai in Sivaganga district, that he had some contacts in the AIADMK and could get him a MLA ticket.
Pandi paid Rs.2 lakh as advance to the accused in a restaurant at Purasawalkam.
After the final list of candidates fielded by the party was announced, Pandi realised that he was cheated. He lodged a complaint with the Kilpauk police.
A special team formed to investigate the case arrested Amanullah. Rs. 70,000 was recovered from him, the official sources added.
