TIRUNELVELI: Scotching rumours that he would contest as an independent candidate in the Palayamkottai constituency, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political council member K.M.A. Nizam said on Thursday that the party cadre, who had been deeply hurt by the humiliation suffered at the hands of AIADMK, would teach a fitting lesson to the party candidates fielded across the State for the April 13 Assembly polls. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Nizam said the MDMK always served the deprived though the beneficiaries belonged to rival political camp and hence the party workers and the office-bearers had earned the goodwill of the people from all walks of life. Though the MDMK was always respecting the friendship it had with the AIADMK, the latter party's high command had humiliated the general secretary Vaiko and the party cadres during seat sharing talks. It was Tirunelveli unit of the MDMK which raised the voice against the “AIADMK's adamant attitude” during the seat sharing talks and urged the party high command to snap its ties with the AIADMK. Against this backdrop, rumours were being spread with ulterior motive that he was going to contest the election as an independent. “Since I've been extending helping hand even to the strangers, I was persuaded by the neutral voters and by some political personalities to contest the polls, but I firmly refused it. Our party, known for its lofty principles, has decided to boycott the polls. And I reiterate that I'll not contest this election as an independent candidate as it will be totally against the decision taken by our party,” Mr. Nizam clarified. He also added that the MDMK cadre, while keeping a distance away from the ongoing electioneering, would teach a fitting lesson to the AIADMK by casting their votes.
