Vijayakant's tax dues over Rs.7.52-crore

VILLUPURAM: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakant owes over Rs.7.52 crore by way of income-tax and property tax arrears. His wife V. Premalatha owes over Rs.1.72 crore on both counts.

Mr. Vijayakant has stated this in the affidavit attached to the nomination filed for Rishivandhiyam Assembly constituency on Thursday. He has noted that appeals are pending in these cases. He also has liability of over Rs.2.53 crore in the form of loans obtained from banks/financial institutions.

He has put the value of his movable assets at Rs.9.04 crore and immovable assets, Rs.10.83 crore (present market value); that of Ms. Premalatha at Rs.1.28 crore and Rs.5.28 crore; his first dependant Vijay Prabakaran – Rs.81.91 lakh and Rs.43.33 lakh; his second dependant Shanmugha Pandian – Rs.28.28 lakh (he has no fixed assets in his name).

Mr. Vijayakant owns shares or investment worth Rs.74.99 lakh in Andal Alagar Kalayana Mandapam (P) Ltd, and Rs.2.93 crore in Captain Farms (P) Ltd. Ms. Premalatha has shares worth Rs.1 crore in Captain Media (P) Ltd.

A defamation case is pending against him.

C.Ve.Shanmugham's assets

Former Education Minister in the erstwhile AIADMK government C.Ve.Shanmugham, who filed his papers for the Villupuram constituency, has declared the value of his movable assets as Rs.3,73,003 and immovable assets, Rs.2.60 lakh. His wife has movable assets worth Rs.4,07,794 and immovable assets, Rs.26.01 lakh. An interim stay has been obtained from the Madras High Court in a case of alleged inclusion of bogus voters in electoral rolls filed against him. The following candidates filed their nominations:
