Ready for contest: Former Transport Minister and LDF candidate in Thiruvalla Mathew T. Thomas of the Janata Dal (S) and (right) UDF candidate Victor T. Thomas of the Kerala Congress (M) filing their nominations before Sub-Collector P. Balakiran at the Revenue Divisional Office in Thiruvalla on Thursday.
PATHANAMTHITTA: With two days left for filing nominations for the forthcoming Assembly polls, 13 candidates filed their nominations in the five constituencies of Aranmula, Thiruvalla, Adoor, Konni and Ranni in the district on Thursday. Former Transport Minister and Janata Dal (S) candidate Mathew T. Thomas and his United Democratic Front rival Victor T. Thomas of Kerala Congress (M), filed their nominations before Thiruvalla Sub Collector P. Balakiran, who is the Returning Officer, at the revenue divisional office in Thiruvalla on Thursday. K.S. Rajan, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, also filed his nomination in Thiruvalla. In Ranni, sitting MLA Raju Abraham of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and former State Planning Board member, Peelipose Thomas of Congress (I) filed their nominations on Thursday. Communist Party of India (CPI) MLA K.C. Rajagopalan and BJP candidate K. Haridas, State secretary of Hindu Aikyavedi, also filed their papers on Thursday. Chitayam Gopakumar of CPI, Pandalam Sudhakaran of Congress (I) and K.K. Sasi of BJP submitted their nominations in Adoor before the revenue divisional officer, who is the Returning Officer, on Thursday. Adoor Prakash, MLA, has submitted his nominations in Konni constituency. Mr. Haridas and Mr. Ramachandran, independents, have also filed their papers in Ranni and Adoor respectively. With this, the total number of nominations received for the Assembly polls to be held on April 13 in the five Assembly segments of the district has gone up to 19, according to election office sources. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 28.
