VISAKHAPATNAM: The Eastern Power Distribution Company of AP Limited (APEPDCL) on Thursday acknowledged “temporary interruptions” in maintaining the scheduled power supply to consumers in the five districts under it due to shortfall in generation. The company attributed the problem to shortage of about 870 megawatt (MW) or 20.88 million units (mu) and said it might lead to “emergency load-shedding.” Following a big gap in demand and supply, interruptions might range from two to three hours and the situation may remain so for another two days. The power cut will be resorted to in mandal and district headquarters and towns only when necessary. Shortfall in generation of 120 MW at Kottagudem, 250 MW at Ramagundam and 500 MW at NTPC had resulted in overall supply position deteriorating. In the five districts that fall under EPDCL against the normal demand of 1600 MW the peak demand has touched 1,735 MW. As of now the shortage is resulting in power cut of one to two hours. The company regretted the inconvenience and urged consumers to co-operate.
