Probe against Home Minister also
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Minutes after it ordered a probe into charges of corruption against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, his kin and associates on Thursday, the Special Lokayukta Court instructed the Lokayukta police to investigate corruption charges against Home Minister R. Ashok as well.
The case against Mr. Ashok, which was filed by RTI activist M. Manjunath, came up for hearing after orders were passed in the case against the Chief Minister.
Land acquired
According to the private complaint, which was filed on March 1, Mr. Ashok is alleged to have got 23 guntas (nearly 25,000 sq. ft) of government land registered in his name with the connivance of Mr. Yeddyurappa.
The BDA took possession of a large tract of land in the Lottgollahalli area in 1988 for the formation of Raj Mahal Vilas extention 2nd Stage Layout. In 2003 and 2007, Mr. Ashoka allegedly purchased 23 guntas in this area from 11 persons, who used to own the land before it was acquired by the BDA. He then got the absolute sale deeds executed in his favour with the help of two sub-registrars at the BDA.
Mr. Manjunath further alleged that in 2009 he used his official powers to get the Government to denotify the land making him the undisputed owner of the land.
