LONDON: Britain has called an international conference in London next week to discuss the Libyan crisis, including the humanitarian needs of those affected by the conflict. A number of Arab and African countries are expected to attend the conference, to be held on March 29, amid reports of divisions and tensions in the western alliance leading the military campaign in Libya. Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement the conference would take stock of the implementation of the U.N. Security Council resolution authorising measures to enforce a no-fly zone in Libya and to protect civilians. In a separate statement in the Commons, Mr. Hague said Britain wanted NATO to take control of the military operations “as quickly as possible''.
