Report all emergency calls
Namakkal: All the nine Government-operated 108 ambulances in the district, ambulances operated by private hospital and private ambulance service providers should henceforth inform all emergency calls received by them to the toll-free election control room in the District Collectorate at 180042-57012, till April 13. Collector S. Madumathi who made this announcement told The Hindu that this was not a direction from the Election Commission but a precautionary step taken by the district administration here and the election department not to give any chance of misuse of the ambulance service – to distribute money to voters.
She made this statement on Friday following newspaper reports pointed out by few political parties according to which the 108 EMRI ambulance service was allegedly being misused to safely distribute money to voters.
Election personnel have been appointed to monitor calls and they would inform the election flying squad to check if the cases of emergency informed by the ambulance were true.
