Candidature of Maqbool Jan opposed

KRISHNAGIRI: Members of the block and district committees of the Congress here have opposed the candidature of Maqbool Jan for Krishnagiri Assembly constituency. He is the headquarters secretary of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.

In a letter faxed to Congress president Sonial Gandhi on Friday, C. Narasimhan, a former MP, said Mr. Maqbool Jan was an outsider who had no contacts in the constituency.

“There are enough well qualified and suitable candidates like him available in the district,” the letter said.

He said a local and winnable candidate should be nominated to the constituency to save the image of the party.
