Creative:Deputy Inspector-General (Visakha Range) Soumya Mishra going round the painting exhibition in Visakhapatnam on Friday. VISAKHAPATNAM: An exhibition of paintings, “Usha's World of Visual Imagery”, was inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General (Visakha Range) Soumya Mishra at Khoobsurat Gallery at Siripuram on Friday. The paintings are characterised by the use of rich colours and light. Impressed by the works, the DIG said the technique (abstracts) was something new to her. A number of visitors and artists also admired the works on display. Artist Usha said she was concentrating more on abstracts though she also works on portraits, figurative drawings, Tanjore paintings and mixed media. There are about 30 paintings, mainly acrylics and oils, on display at the expo. An alumna of the Fine Arts Department of Andhra University, Usha migrated to the USA in 1999. Though she paints mainly in oils, she rendered brilliantly coloured works in acrylics, pastels, mixed media, porcelain and has produced a number of pieces in pottery. In one form of abstract art, which is currently gaining ground, certain part of the painting is allowed to paint itself by pouring in a controlled way. The different colours react with one another in an unpredictable manner, giving rise to exquisite blending. Some paintings of Usha, done using this technique, had received wide acclaim. She is fascinated by the fact that power and energy can be portrayed in abstract art. The expo will be on till March 29.
