Altogether 811 prizes worth Rs. 20 lakh are being given About 5.97 lakh tax payers have paid tax out of 11.5 lakh HYDERABAD: D. Lakshmi Narayana of Rezimental Bazar, Secunderabad, bagged the bountiful bumper prize of Rs.1 lakh in the lucky draw conducted by GHMC for the property tax payers of the year 2009-2010 here on Friday. The draw held in the presence of Mayor B. Kartika Reddy, Commissioner Sameer Sharma, Additional Commissioner (Finance) S. Harikrishna, Chief Valuation Officer Pankaja, SBH Deputy General Manager Pattabhiraman and other officials, also saw Syed Shaik Qutubuddin of Kalasiguda, Secunderabad, bagging the second big prize of Rs. 50,000. Four others – Rishpal Kour Pannu of Rajendranagar, Hyderguda; Laxmi Bai of Abids, Hill Fort; Pandu of Rajendranagar, Hyderguda; and R.C. Venkataiah of L.B.Nagar, Saroornagar, bagged cash prizes of Rs. 25,000 each. Ten others won cash prizes of Rs. 10,000 each, 20 citizens won Rs. 5,000 each and 775 won consolation cash prizes of Rs. 2,000. Altogether 811 prizes are being given costing Rs. 20 lakh sponsored by SBH. About 5.97 lakh tax payers have paid the tax out of 11.5 lakh and they were eligible to participate in lucky draw for last year when the property tax collection was Rs. 494.03 crore. Tax collected Mr. Harikrishna said property tax collected for the current year was Rs. 432.27 crore so far and property owners who will pay all tax dues including arrears by March 31 will be eligible for cash prizes next year i.e. 2010-2011. The last date for payment of property tax without penal interest is also month end. With the Government waiving penalty for the year, the GHMC which had collected about Rs. 33 crore will be adjusting the same for next year's dues or 2011-2012. Cash prizes for tax payers was introduced in 2003-04 to encourage more to get into the net and over the years the cash amounts has been increasing from Rs. 5 lakh to begin with to Rs. 20 lakh now. Mayor Kartika Reddy requested SBH officials to increase the prize amount for next year to motivate more tax payers to pay promptly thus enabling the Municipal Corporation garner substantial revenue for using it towards the infrastructure development of the twin cities.
