Jairam clarifies on clearance to mining firm
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh denied that any “undue favour” has been shown to Ramgad Mining and Minerals Pvt. Ltd., a mining company operating in Bellary.
In a letter to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, reacting to accusations that the Ministry of Environment and Forests had granted final approval to a mining company for operations in Bellary without the recommendation of the State Government, he said that the clearance was accorded on September 15.
The ban imposed only holds for fresh applications filed after October 18.
The approval granted before the date from which the ban came into account was subject to demarcation of lease areas, the letter stated.
Representations
It also added that the RMML had made several representations to the Union Ministry alleging “discriminatory treatment at the hands of the State Government”.
