New Delhi: A legal encyclopaedia with over 40,000 words, phrases and expressions, brought out by two lawyers, was released here recently by Justice Altamas Kabir of the Supreme Court. In Supreme Court on Words, Phrases and Legal Expressions (judicially defined, the words are compiled alphabetically with meanings. Each word or expression has a corresponding citation mentioning the number of the particular AIR or SCC volume with reference to the page which contains the defined explanation. According to the authors, T.L. Garg and his son Rohan Garg, the Supreme Court has during the past 60 years defined complex constitutional and statutory provisions to lay down the law for strengthening constitutionalism and the rule of law. In the process, it has given definition to thousands of words, phrases and expressions which have different meanings in legal parlance. In the two-volume book, tracing the meaning of a word or phrase found in law books is a matter of minutes. Supreme Court judges said the book would be a great source of help and learning to the judicial fraternity. “It is an outcome of very painstaking research and dedicated effort for four years. This compilation fulfils a long-felt need for all those who are keen to do research on law declared by the Supreme Court. This will be of great use to judges, lawyers, academicians, law students and also to a wide spectrum of people who have an interest in the field of law.”
