59 new nominees

Staff Reporter

Tiruvannamalai: On the last day of filing nomination for the April 13 election to the State Assembly, a total of 59 new nominees, mostly independents, filed their papers for eight constituencies in Tiruvannamalai district.

Though the total number of nominations received by authorities on Saturday was actually 62, three had filed on earlier days as well, and the actual new nominees were 59.

Though some of the constituencies received a marginally higher number of nominations than 16 since dummy candidates of political parties are set to withdraw and possible rejections of some of the nominations, ultimately the numbers would come down to 16 or below.
