New facilities:Home Minister R. Ashok speaks at the foundation stone laying ceremony of rural bus stations at Hokrana village in Aurad taluk on Saturday Bidar: Transport Minister R. Ashok laid the foundation stones for mini- bus stations in seven villages of Aurad taluk on Saturday. At a ceremony in Hokrana village, he said such bus stations will be built in all taluks in the State. “Each of these bus stations will be built at the cost of Rs. 50 lakh. This will not only be a place where buses stop to pick up or drop passengers, but also a place where people can rest for some time before moving. Shelters It will have passenger shelters, drinking water and communication facilities. We consider providing passenger amenities as our responsibility,” he said. The losses incurred by State Government transport undertakings such as the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) and North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation had come down significantly over the years. “The NEKRTC in particular, was thought of as a sinking ship. However, its losses have come down and its revenues have stabilised. The Union Urban Development Ministry officials now cite Karnataka as a better model among State transport undertakings,” he said. Appointment “In the last two years, the transport undertakings had appointed 20,000 drivers, conductors and other staff members. Nearly 75 per cent of them are from North Karnataka,'' Mr. Ashok said. District in charge minister Revu Naik Belamagi, MLAs Prabhu Chauhan, Rahim Khan and Rajshekar Patil, Prakash Khandre, former MLA, NEKRTC Managing Director Shankar Patil, and others were present.
