Namakkal: Persons arrested in connection with the hurling of petrol bombs at the house of DMDK's Namakkal District Secretary and Tiruchengode candidate P. Sampath Kumar on Tuesday night claimed that the attack was to convey their dissatisfaction over not naming a local representative of the party as its candidate. Police on Saturday arrested four persons – T. Ramesh alias Bhai Ramesh (31), M. Karupu alias Sivakumar (24), M. Kumar (23) and M. Shankar alias Udhaya Shankar (26) of Thotikarapalayam village near Tiruchengode – in connection with the incident of March 22. Surrendered According to police they surrendered before the Nallipalayam Revenue Inspector and Village Administrative Officer. Police said all four were from the same party. They quoted prime accused Ramesh that they were disappointed when Sampath Kumar who lives in Namakkal town was allowed to contest from Tiruchengode while a long-time loyalist there who was expected to be the candidate was denied the chance. Police narrated that the gang filled two empty liquor bottles with petrol and decided to cause damage to the house. Police initially filed a case under section 4 of the Explosive Act and 436 IPC (Burning) before changing it to 3 (1) of the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act. They were remanded to judicial custody. The four-wheeler used by the gang was also seized.
