ERODE: Disappointed over the allocation of fewer seats to the SC/ST wing of the Congress, a section of party workers staged a demonstration and burnt the effigy of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thankgabalu here on Saturday. The cadres burnt the effigy in front of the district Congress committee office here and raised slogans condemning the TNCC chief. The partymen claimed that Mr. Thankgabalu had failed to give adequate representation to the members of the SC/ST wing. Even the State president of the wing was denied a ticket to contest in the Assembly elections. The TNCC president, however, had allotted a number of seats to his supporters including his wife to contest in the Assembly polls. Describing this as unfair, cadres alleged that Mr. Thankgabalu had misguided the party high command on the selection of candidates. Cadres wanted the party high command to remove Mr. Thankgabalu from the TNCC chief post. District SC/ST wing president Mohan Kumar led the protest.
